ABOUT THE FILM
Set at the turn of the millennium, the story centers around a young woman and the complicated relationships she has with her parents, sister, and friends. Against the backdrop of American Evangelical culture, these relationships collide powerfully with her struggle to come to terms with her gay identity. We follow Gertie from age twelve to her first year at Christian college, as she processes her emerging lesbian orientation on a roller coaster of confession, shame, denial and final acceptance. Meanwhile, her mother faces her own free-fall as cancer threatens not only her life, but everything she believes. These two crises collide in way that will either wreck the family or ultimately bring them together.
